Session 1: June 20 - June 30:  Grades 1- 12

CAMPS & CLASSES FOR GRADES  1- 6

Reading Classes

Phonics and Reading Grades 1-3 - Staff
$225  -  9:30am - 11:00am
Children will  take part in reading and oral language activities that concentrate on concept and vocabulary development. In this class, stories and informational texts are read aloud after which students will discuss with other children what they read. Children take part in phonics lessons and word-recognition strategy instruction. They learn through interactive games, sentence puzzles, worksheet, etc. Participation in this class, will keep your child on track through the summer and firm up concepts they will need going into school in the fall.

Reading Comprehension and Fluency Grades 4-6 - Mr. Tebeck
$250  -  9:30am - 11:00am
This class will help motivate children to read. Children will be taught thinking skills, and how to comprehend what they are reading by implementing all six traits of the reading process. This program is built around books that appeal to young people's interests. Children will learn through fun read aloud sessions and "book club" activity in addition to answering questions to prompt group discussion. They will learn how to pick out key words and main ideas, and how to use sensory imaging to help with understanding. In addition, emphasis will be put on reading fluency to aid with comprehension. This will be an exciting, interactive class, assured to help even the most reluctant reader.

Writing Camp

Writing Wizards: Beginning Writers of all Ages -  Mrs. Jata
$150  -  11:15pm - 12:30pm Mon, Tues, and Wed.
Come write with us! Our writing classes are like mini workshops; you do the writing under the supervision of a professional, writing wizard. Before the year is over, you will get to write over many different genres! Young wizards explore the world of writing with the use of paper and pencil, brains and bobbles, and techniques and tutors. Yes, we do practice the boring stuff, such as; punctuation and spelling, but hey, those things are just stepping stones to the big story! You do want to get to the story part, don't you? Then come along! Join us! We will have you writing like the wizard you are in no time.

MATH

Math Camp: Grades 4-6 - Mr. Crum
$250  -  12:45pm – 2:15pm
Students will be taught math concepts through games, memorization, manipulatives and stories. This class will focus on multiplication and division skills, beginning fractions and geometry and measurements. This is an excellent class for students who need to brush up on skills before school begins in the fall.

 

MIDDLE SCHOOL & HIGH SCHOOL CLASSES

Writing Basics  - Mr. Tebeck
$225  -  11:15am - 12:30pm Mon, Tues, and Wed.
The focus will be on writing solid paragraphs. Students will learn how to create a thesis statement and follow that up with strong supporting sentences and a conclusion that summarizes their thesis. Attention will be given to punctuation and sentence structure. This is an excellent class for students who could benefit from a small class with individualized attention.
